In response to the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, Calvary Church offers the following statement articulating what we believe about racial justice.
As a community committed to following the way of Jesus Christ, we acknowledge that racism is a sin. Any thought, word, action, or system that oppresses one people group, to the advantage of another, is both sinful and unjust. As a diverse community who desires to stand in solidarity with our African American brothers and sisters, we confess that we have participated in, and benefited from, unjust systems that oppress people. We repent of our sins of silence and cooperation, and together we seek the mercy and forgiveness of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus calls his followers to join him in his work in the world through being agents of reconciliation. Calvary Church strives to grow, learn, love, enfold, welcome the other, and be a safe place for all people. Regardless of race, we desire to work out our faith together and be reconciled to Christ as the family of God. In taking a stand against systemic injustice, we long to shine the light of Christ in our community.
